Introducing… the Temple Sessions

A top secret project has been under way, and the time has now come to reveal all! It’s been one of my major goals for this site to start featuring video content, and I’m delighted to say that it’s finally come to fruition. There are a few features that I’d love create for you all on the site’s brand new YouTube channel, but chief among them has always been live sessions. It’s one thing talking about music you love, it’s another thing entirely sharing it firsthand. For our inaugural video I got the chance to film Ophelia perform a couple of acoustic tracks (as well as take part in a little challenge). There’s plenty more great content from Ophelia, and the channel in general, on the way soon, but here’s your first ever Temple Session: ‘Fading’, from their debut album Blackbox Memories.

British band killed in car crash

All four members of the upcoming indie band Viola Beach and their manager have died in a car crash in Sweden. The band was travelling after performing at the Where Is The Music? festival in Stockholm when their vehicle fell 80ft through the gap in a drawbridge. Eyewitnesses state that the car seemed to ignore or fail to notice all warnings and barriers. The band had released their debut single last year and had performed at Reading and Leeds. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the band and their manager.

Aretha Franklin wows at Kennedy Centre Honours

This year’s Kennedy Centre Honours have taken place to praise artistic contribution to American culture. Among this year’s honourees was prolific songwriter Carole King. The ceremony featured Aretha Franklin’s rousing rendition of ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’, which was originally written by King and was a big hit for the both of them. It follows in the ceremony’s tradition of astonishing covers, such as Heart’s cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ at the 2012 ceremony.

The ultimate drum battle

It’s the showdown we’ve all been waiting for; rock legend Dave Grohl versus everyone’s favourite Muppet Animal. The Foo Fighters frontman faced the drummer of the house band The Electric Mayhem on the latest episode of The Muppets. After some trash talk and a couple of smashed drum kits they called it a draw, but who do you think is the winner?

Over 1000 musicians play Foo Fighters song

A vast group of singers and musicians have gathered in the Italian town of Cesena to perform the Foo Fighters song ‘Learn To Fly’. The video, which has since gone viral, included a message to frontman Dave Grohl asking him and the band to play a concert in their town. Given the lengths they have gone to and the reception it has gotten I don’t see them saying no.
