A lot can happen in ten years. People change, trends come and go, and a small gathering of music fans in a wooden barn in Gloucester can become the best festival in the world. After building up a reputation over the past decade for championing new music, breaking down barriers, and being the most warm and welcoming festival family around, Over Farm found itself at the centre of a very special birthday. With Barn on the Farm celebrating it’s tenth anniversary (and Belwood returning for a fifth year), expectations were high that they would pull something special out of the bag. And, in spite of a few big names pulling out last minute, they did all that and more. Continue reading
For one brief golden weekend this gorgeous little patch of English countryside undoubtedly holds the title of the happiest place on Earth. As well as having built a reputation as one of the keenest eyes for new rising talent, Barn on the Farm above all else boasts an inescapable atmosphere of joy and togetherness. With so much in it’s favour it’s little wonder that I, along with the rest of the ever-growing Farm family, eagerly made my way back to my spiritual home for another year of incredible music and priceless memories. The winner of Belwood Music’s inaugural Spotlight! award for best new artist is back with his latest single. The minimal rhythm and blues of ‘Our Love’ is another infectious feel good hit for Britain’s best new up and coming soul man. Paired with the video which shows off his energy and enthusiasm as he performs with his band, Samm is on to another winner. ‘Our Love’ is the first track from his upcoming EP The Sound Experiment 2 which is out 15th July. If the first experiment is anything to go by then it is a date worth jotting down.
There’s been some excellent music this year, and as Belwood Music is rapidly approaching it’s first birthday it seems like a perfect time to hold the first ever annual awards. There are dozens of artists that are thoroughly deserving of praise, but I’ve chosen to narrow down the awards to 8 categories. Continue reading
This soulful songsmith from London is set to take the world by storm. He draws inspiration from the golden age of soul and blues and gives it a new lease of life. Tracks such as ‘Only Wanna Be With You’ showcase his fun-loving side, ‘Autonomy (Slave) and ‘Everything’ carry a deeper message and are fine examples of his exemplary songwriting, whereas the raw, stripped back blues of ‘Redemption’ puts his powerful vocals in the forefront in a stirring yet vulnerable performance. Samm has surrounded himself with a formidable backing band of top class musicians and as far as live performances go he is a consummate showman. He knows how to write a hit and with his talent, style and charisma it’s only a matter of time before he makes it big.
Samm’s debut EP ‘The Sound Experiment’ is out now
Eager for my first summer festival experience I decided to start small. To be honest I don’t think I could’ve picked a better place to start. This welcoming little gathering has an astonishing record for discovering new talent and it’s hardly surprising that it has won awards for best independent festival. With a line-up that for me was beaten only by Glastonbury, I set out under the glorious summer sun to see some old favourites and discover some new incredible music. Continue reading
